Date: Tuesday, 28 February 2017 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Duration: 2 Hours
As modellers, we spend a lot of time extracting, collating and cleaning data to use in our financial models, and this process, especially if done on a regular basis, becomes much easier with Power Query.
Power Query is an Addin for Excel 2010/2013, and comes natively installed as “get and transform” in Excel 2016. This is a very powerful tool that allows you to gather, cleanse an process data prior to loading into Excel in a way that was never possible before. It is surprisingly easy to get into and addictive once you do – once you get the hang of it, you will see every data challenge as a job for Power Query!
Join us to network with other modellers and hear from Business Intelligence expert, Microsoft MVP and author of the book "Learn to Write DAX", Matt Allington.
In this session Matt will demonstrate three ways you can leverage Power Query to do every day tasks:
1. Combine the contents of tabulated data across multiple Excel worksheets into a single table of data that can then easily be analysed.
2. Combine transactional records from a bank statement, cleanse and load the records into Excel and then add your own commentary.
3. Use Power Query to identify duplicate files on your computer hard disk.
This informal meetup is a great opportunity to network with other modellers, catch up with old friends and make new ones. All welcome, and there is no charge for this event. Drinks and food can be purchased at the bar. Don't forget your business cards!
